“People die when curiosity goes. People have to find out, people have to know.”

Graham Swift, Waterland

So here are some quirky facts about me:

  1. I worked as an officer on cruise ships for almost 4 years! I balanced the ship’s finances by night and explored the islands by day: Nassau, San Juan, and St. Thomas for the first 8 months, and then the rest of my time was spent sailing around the Hawaiian islands. Rough life.

  1. When I worked at a law firm in Michigan, one of the partners was the son of the infamous Jimmy Hoffa!
  2. Traveling is a passion of mine (and a great way to gather stories). I’ve been to 47 states (including Hawaii and Alaska), backpacked Europe for 4 months, traveled to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Dubai, Thailand, many places in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and Japan (3 times!). I’m always looking forward to the next trip…
  3. Besides traveling, my other hobbies are photography, reading, writing, hiking, biking, kayaking, and anything outdoors. I also enjoy serving the Lord, whether through leading mission teams, volunteering with outreach projects, or writing inspirational stories.
  4. My favorite treat is ice cream. Isn’t that everyone’s favorite? So refreshing, so many flavors…
  5. My favorite child is…ha, ha! I tell each of them he or she is my favorite, but I overflow with love for all of them. Though I might love whoever builds me a mother-in-law suite just a little more.
  6. My favorite books to read are suspense novels and Christian living books by descriptive authors such as Max Lucado and John Ortberg. Actually, I enjoy any well-written story.
  7. I’m a certified scuba diver and avid snorkeler. I’ve been diving with sharks and snorkeling with manatees. My favorite water adventure, though, was snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands with a mommy sea lion and her babies swimming circles around me.
  8. I’m a very daring and adventurous person, except when it comes to food. On my first trip to Japan, I mostly ate white rice for three weeks.
  9. I’m obsessed with the outdoors. I’m thinking of becoming a park ranger.
